Prime Days: Shop With or Without Marketplaces?
Amazon Prime Days are among the highest-revenue days of the year for many merchants. Those who rely exclusively on marketplaces are missing out on important long-term opportunities.
Amazon Prime Days are among the highest-revenue events in the e-commerce calendar. For many merchants, they are the two days a year when the cash register rings loudest.
The question is: what role does your own shop play in all of this?
Marketplaces: high reach, little control
Amazon, eBay, Kaufland — marketplaces offer instant reach. No effort for traffic generation, no costs for acquiring new customers. That sounds attractive.
The price you pay: you play by the marketplace's rules. Price dumping via algorithms, constantly rising fees, no direct customer relationship. If Amazon changes the category rules or suspends an account, you are dependent on a decision you cannot influence.
Your own shop: control, but effort
Your own shop means full control — over prices, customer relationships, data protection and brand presentation. You know who your customers are and can retain them long-term.
The effort for traffic is real. SEO, advertising, social media — that costs time or money. Prime Days do not bring you automatic reach on your own shop.
The smart combination
The most successful merchants use both — but deliberately. Marketplaces for reach and new customer acquisition; own shop for regular customers, higher margins and data control.
A concrete tactic for Prime Days: be visible on Amazon, but position your own site as the destination for exclusive offers or bundle deals that are only available direct.
Technically: connecting both channels
Anyone selling on multiple channels needs clean system integration. Stock levels, prices, orders — everything must be synchronised so that no channel holds back the other.
