Magento 2 AI Copilot: AI Directly in the Shop Backend

Adobe Commerce and Magento 2 are integrating AI functions directly into the backend. What the AI Copilot can do, what it cannot yet — and who really benefits from it.

Adobe Commerce — the enterprise product based on Magento 2 — is gradually having AI functions integrated directly into the backend. The so-called AI Copilot is intended to relieve shop managers from routine tasks.

What is behind it — and is it worth using?

What the Magento AI Copilot does

The currently available functions focus on:

Generating product descriptions: Based on product attributes, the Copilot creates draft descriptions — in multiple languages and in various tones.

Category texts: Similar to product descriptions, but at category level. Particularly useful for shops with many categories.

Image alt texts: The Copilot analyses product images and suggests SEO-relevant alt texts.

Chat-based search in the backend: An internal search function that responds to natural language queries — for example "Show me all products with fewer than 10 items in stock".

What it cannot yet do

AI in the backend does not mean the system makes decisions independently. Pricing strategies, assortment management, campaign control — these remain the team's responsibility.

The quality of the generated texts also depends heavily on data quality. Anyone with incomplete product attributes gets incomplete drafts.

Who benefits from it

The AI Copilot makes most sense for shops with a large catalogue — hundreds or thousands of products where manual text creation does not scale.

For small shops with a manageable catalogue, the effort of setting it up often pays off less than using an external AI tool directly in product management.
